Our Founders

Mr. Robert vonLoewenfeldt, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Robert vonLoewenfeldt is a Co-Founder and the CEO of the vonLoewenfeldt Group, bringing more than three decades of operational experience, technical leadership, and instructional excellence to the forefront of explosive threat mitigation and public safety innovation.

Rob began his distinguished career in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer, where he served in specialized roles including Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Military Police Game Warden office and personal security detail for then-Secretary of Defense William J. Perry. Following military service, he transitioned into civilian law enforcement, where he built a multifaceted career as a patrol officer, homicide detective, SWAT officer, public safety diver, explosive detection K-9 handler, and bomb technician.

With over 20 years in SWAT, 18 years as a bomb technician, and 23 years in police/public safety diving, Rob pioneered underwater improvised explosive device (IED) detection and response capabilities. He created the Hinesville Police Department’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, and led the development of waterborne IED response strategies for both the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. His pioneering efforts in this domain were instrumental in shaping national capabilities and informing the design of maritime bomb response equipment, including the development of the SAAB Sea Wasp—a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) for IED detection and mitigation.

A dedicated educator and thought leader, Rob has taught extensively for the FBI’s Hazardous Devices School and Tools & Technology Unit, as well as the United States Bomb Technician Association (USBTA) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors. He also served as an instructor at both the Georgia and South Carolina Criminal Justice Academies. His contributions to the FBI’s Maritime Bomb Technician curriculum, coupled with his hands-on experience, have cemented his status as one of the nation’s foremost authorities on underwater explosive threats.

Rob’s leadership extends into national policy and standards development. He has served as the Southern Technical Representative to the National Bomb Squad Commanders’ Advisory Board, a member of the Department of Homeland Security’s First Responder Resource Group, and an active contributor to ASTM International and FEMA Urban Search and Rescue robotic standards committees. His work has shaped operational best practices and industry benchmarks for robotic systems, including co-authoring standard test methods for evaluating ROVs and AUVs for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

As former Chief Operating Officer of the United States Bomb Technician Association, Rob played a key role in fostering professional development and collaborative learning across the bomb technician community. He has authored multiple FBI Special Technical Bulletins on counter-IED procedures and has presented nationally and internationally on maritime security and bomb disposal, including speaking engagements in Australia and at major U.S. conferences.

Mr. vonLoewenfeldt holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and remains a steadfast advocate for advancing the knowledge, tools, and professionalism of those who serve on the front lines of explosive threat response. His operational credibility, technical insight, and unwavering dedication make him a cornerstone of the vonLoewenfeldt Group and a respected leader within the global EOD community.
